I was honored to recently interview Mike Williams, President and CEO of Community Hospital Corporation (CHC), based in Plano, Texas. CHC owns, leases, and manages hospitals, as well as consults with and advises hospitals and other healthcare clients throughout the United States.
During the 70-minute videotaped interview, I asked Mike Williams the following question: “What work habits do you believe are most responsible for your personal and professional success?”
His answer was beautiful and profound:
“Diligence and commitment to mission are two philosophies that result in work habits that have contributed to not just my success, but to our success.
From the beginning of this organization 18 years ago, had I not been diligent in saying ‘we have a mission to accomplish and an audience and people to serve, and I’ve got to be creative in putting together a team to accomplish that mission,’ we would have never achieved the success we have enjoyed, nor ever served the people and organizations we have served.
When you are passionate about and committed to the mission, and when you are diligent—over some period of time—success is going to follow!”
So how about you? What work habits do you believe are most responsible for your personal and professional success? Carefully and thoughtfully answer this question and gain crystal-clear clarity.
As Mike Williams also said during the interview, “Be crystal clear as to your mission and strategies, and always on purpose!”
However you answer this question, you cannot argue with Mike Williams’ powerful response:
“When you are passionate about and committed to the mission, and when you are diligent—over some period of time—success is going to follow!”
