Mark Solazzo on 4 Foundational Principles of Northwell Health’s Organizational Culture
I recently had the honor to interview Mark Solazzo, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Northwell Health, which is one of the fastest growing and most successful integrated healthcare systems in America. As the largest private workforce in New York State, the Northwell system currently includes 61,000 employees.
According to the Northwell website, Mr. Solazzo provides leadership and oversight to all operations for Northwell Health, which includes:
- 21 hospitals
- 3 long-term care facilities
- 3,000 physician medical groups
- Ambulatory services consisting of over 450 practices
- An internationally recognized medical research institute
- New ventures enterprise
- Various additional healthcare-related businesses
Mr. Solazzo’s responsibilities include integrating the strategic plan of the organization through its operations while maintaining an organizational culture that recognizes the importance of these four foundational principles:
- Strategic change leadership
- Excellence in execution
- Accountability
- Ongoing commitment to long-term growth and innovation
In the nearly hour-long interview, which will be featured on America’s Healthcare Leaders later this year, Solazzo elaborates on these topics and the part they play in the overall success of Northwell Health. Mark Solazzo and Michael Dowling, President and CEO of Northwell Health, attribute much, if not almost all of their success to their relentless, energetic, enthusiastic focus on these areas.
You are a healthcare leader. You no doubt strive to purposefully learn from successful colleagues and peers across America like Mark Solazzo. Like Mr. Solazzo, as a leader you are responsible for creating the most effective culture and focus in order to achieve your organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
Are you focused on strategic change leadership? Excellence in execution? Accountability? An ongoing commitment to long-term growth and innovation? Do you measure and reward individuals and teams throughout your organization based on these critical leadership and success criteria?
There is much you and your colleagues can learn from the progress and success of Northwell Health!
