May 1, 2024- Walmart Health will close all 51 of its health clinics, according to an April 30 announcement from the company. In 2019, Walmart launched health centers across five states including Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas, and Walmart Health Virtual Care. The company stated that through “experience managing Walmart Health centers and Walmart Health Virtual Care, we determined there is not a sustainable business model for us to continue.”
Patients with scheduled appointments will continue to be seen, and Walmart is making efforts to direct patients to other providers in their insurance networks. The announcement, according to NBC, is a swift reversal for Walmart, as just last month the company announced it hoped to expand the number of doctor-staffed clinics.
