August 26, 2022 – The Vizient Clinical Data Base® recently welcomed its 1,000th hospital participant, a milestone that marks its place as the definitive analytics platform for hospital performance and financial improvement. Vizient is the largest member-driven healthcare performance improvement company in the U.S. and serves more than half the nation’s healthcare providers.
“Through Vizient members providing patient outcomes data, a new level of transparency across healthcare has been achieved,” said Amanda Hooper, senior vice president, solutions strategy and analytics delivery. “Healthcare organizations are deriving insights from their peers, enabling them to improve their delivery of patient care.”
The Vizient Clinical Data Base (CDB) provides data on patient outcomes such as mortality, length of stay, complication and readmission rates, and hospital-acquired conditions. The data enables hospitals to benchmark against peers to reduce variation and identify and sustain performance improvements as well as expedite data collection to fulfill agency reporting requirements.
The CDB was created in the 1980s, with the initial providers being academic medical centers (AMCs). The purpose was to transparently share outcomes data to identify top performers and best practices. Today, over 1,050 hospitals, including 97% of the nation’s AMCs, participate in the CDB.
Today’s CDB provides benchmarking tools such as dashboards, simulation calculators and reporting capabilities and has additional tools to identify patient- and physician-level data. Most recently, the CDB, when paired with the patent pending Vizient Vulnerability Index™, which indexes social determinants of health data at the neighborhood level, can be leveraged to support members’ health equity strategies.
