April 4, 2023 – The University of California, Irvine is launching the Chief Medical Officer Program to equip senior physician leaders with the skills and tools required to step into a C-suite role that encompasses clinical operations and business management. The program is being launched in collaboration with Emeritus, the global leader in making world-class professional education accessible and affordable.
Hospitals are facing critical issues ranging from workforce shortages to staff burnout to making healthcare more affordable to patients. In such a challenging environment, the role of the chief medical officer goes beyond patient safety and medical care and extends to navigating the business and administrative sides of healthcare.
Program participants will join a cohort of medical executives and delve into an in-depth curriculum taught by a faculty that includes experienced physician C-suite leaders and renowned business leaders. The program includes 18 weeks of core modules focused on healthcare leadership, strategy execution, team management, finance and operations. In addition, participants can choose two topical electives to further augment their skills.
Throughout the program, participants will work on a Professional Development Workbook which will help them curate their insights through prescribed activities and apply it as a tool kit in their role as a physician leader. The program culminates with an optional conference and networking event on the UCI campus. Upon completing the program, participants will be awarded a verified digital certificate by the UCI Paul Merage School of Business and granted status as Merage School alumni.
