May 28, 2021 – Construction has begun on the proposed Fort Mill Medical Center, part of a 40-acre property at the intersection of S.C. Highway 160 and U.S. Highway 21 that will include the hospital and an adjacent medical office building.
Tenet Healthcare Corp. (Dallas, TX), parent company of Piedmont Medical Center (Rock Hill, SC) is leading the project. It beat out other big health systems, including Atrium Health, to build the facility.
“Construction on Piedmont Medical Center’s 100-bed Fort Hill hospital has commenced, and we anticipate the hospital opening in the fall of 2022. We look forward to adding to the services we provide in Fort Mill and surrounding areas through our hospital, freestanding emergency department and affiliated medical practices,” Tenet said in a statement to the Charlotte Business Journal.
The proposed Fort Mill Medical Center will be an approximately 200,000-square-foot hospital with a helipad and parking available on the south side. Past estimates put the project cost at $170 million.
The medical center will have separate entrances for the emergency department and ambulances.
