October 24, 2023- Physicians are seeing a rise of strep throat cases in Metro Detroit hospitals. Dr. Kevin Daisy, a pediatric physician at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, says there has been an ongoing surge of strep cases since Spring of 2023, according to WWJ. 950 News Radio.
Strep throat is only one kind of infection caused by strep bacteria. Strep can also get into the bloodstream, leading to more serious infections. Dr. Jennifer Stevenson, Director of Henry Ford Medical Center Fairlane in Dearborn Michigan’s medical emergency department, said current strep throat cases are the highest she has seen in 25 years of being in the medical field, according to WWJ 950 News Radio.
If you develop the symptoms of strep throat, which include throat pain, painful swallowing, swollen tonsils, fever, headache, and more, according Mayo Clinic, seek medical attention for prompt treatment and to avoid spreading the infection to others.
