June 25, 2021 – Olympus (Center Valley, PA) is offering a new for-credit educational course addressing the issue of surgical smoke management in the operating room (OR).
The Continuing Education (CE) e-learning module, “Utilizing Evidence-Based Practice to Minimize Risk for Infection: Smoke Management in the Peri-Operative Setting,” will be presented at the APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) 2021 Virtual Conference being held June 28-30.
Learning objectives for the course include:
- Discuss surgical smoke and the potential risk for infection
- Describe how a facility can manage smoke in the peri-operative setting
- Discuss professional and legislative initiatives that support smoke management in the peri-operative setting
Identify evidence-based practice in smoke management to minimize risk for infection
In addition to awareness building and educational programming, Olympus has been working to offer commercial solutions for addressing surgical smoke exposure. In September 2020, Olympus entered into an exclusive agreement with Alesi Surgical Limited to distribute the Ultravision surgical smoke control system in the U.S.
