March 29, 2022 – Midmark Corp., a leading medical solutions provider focused on the design of the clinical environment to improve the delivery of care, today announced that its IQvitals Zone vital signs monitor earned the internationally renowned GOOD DESIGN Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.
Selected as a winner in the medical category for innovative and cutting-edge design, Midmark IQvitals Zone is the only diagnostic device currently available that automatically and securely connects to caregiver tablets or laptops for vital signs acquisitions. The device uses Bluetooth low energy technology with zero-click auto connection (within close proximity) to import patient data directly into the electronic medical record, eliminating transcription errors.
“Vital signs measurements are oftentimes the first point of contact with patients and are captured at nearly every patient encounter. That’s why it’s so important that the vital signs acquisition process is as accurate and effective as possible,” said Kurt Forsthoefel, marketing director, Midmark. “In addition to a more consistent blood pressure (BP) measurement, the device also captures blood oxygen level, pulse and temperature, as well as weight when used with the Midmark 626 Barrier-Free Examination Chair and can save 69 seconds per patient on average.”
To further improve BP acquisition, Midmark updated the device to include a Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) BP Protocol. This systolic BP measurement protocol, based on the SPRINT trial conducted in 2015, is designed to help clinicians obtain more accurate and consistent BP readings through proper patient positioning and minimizing interruptions that could impact a patient’s BP measurements. The SPRINT BP Protocol is the next step in helping caregivers standardize accurate and consistent BP measurements at the point of care.
The Chicago Athenaeum’s GOOD DESIGN Awards have been presented since 1950 to the world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing visionary and innovative product concepts that marry form with function. The emphasis of the GOOD DESIGN program is on quality design of the highest form, function and aesthetics—a standard beyond ordinary consumer products and graphics. The annual award forwards the ideals of a design process that embodies product excellence and endurance, and strong public identity.
