October 5, 2023- Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is frequently in the path of tropical storms and hurricanes. To prevent the impact of potential rising tides and storm surges, the 1,040-bed academic health system on Davis Islands — housing the region’s only Level I Trauma Center — has an innovative barriersystem that can be raised to provide a protective wall around the campus, helping to prevent flooding and ensure ongoing care.
Before the storm, Medline employees discussed the process of ensuring that TGH had adequate medical supplies to weather the storm. Medline provided four deliveries on the Monday before the storm (Aug. 28, 2023), and planned to make two “fill-in” deliveries, when the Category 4 storm hit. The timeline for engaging the hospital’s flood barrier was accelerated.
Medline and TGH engaged in a collaborative effort to remain in full operation and ensure critical supplies were delivered throughout the storm.
