February 6, 2024- Joel Nelson, M.D., currently the chief medical officer of UPMC International, will become president, UPMC International. Dr. Nelson brings decades of academic, clinical and operational expertise to his new role as president, UPMC International. As chair of the Department of Urology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, since 1999, Dr. Nelson has successfully grown the department from five to 40 full-time faculty members and a 12-fold increase in clinical volumes and research funding.
He also serves as chief clinical officer and executive vice president of UPMC, supporting UPMC’s quality enhancement initiatives, service line development and growth initiatives across UPMC’s regions. “Having served as chief medical officer of UPMC International and as a respected academic and clinical leader of UPMC, Dr. Nelson is poised to continue advancing access to UPMC care and elevate its reputation globally,” said Davis.
