July 8, 2021 – IU Health plans to open a new $557 million, 620,000-square-foot facility on the Indiana University Regional Academic Health Center campus to open this fall.
The new facility, which will be located on the Indiana University Regional Academic Health Center campus, will replace the existing IU Health hospital in Bloomington.
The new facility will have 364 private patient rooms and an emergency department that is double the size of the previous facility’s as well as a cancer profusion center.
The center will provide inpatient services including intensive care services, complex surgeries, and labor and delivery; a comprehensive Women’s Center for obstetrics, a neonatal intensive care nursery, and other perinatal services; and a dedicated trauma center to treat severe injuries.
Hospital leadership told local news that the equipment in the current hospital was acquired from different vendors over the years, which sometimes creates compatibility challenges. All tech in the new hospital, from radiology to bedside monitors and software, will come from the same vendor.
