August 8, 2023 – The emergency department at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray is receiving national recognition from the Emergency Nurses Association for outstanding patient care and innovation.
The Emergency Nurses Association has presented the Intermountain Medical Center emergency department with its 2023 Lantern Award, which recognizes outstanding emergency departments that exemplify exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, medical care, education, advocacy, and research.
Intermountain Medical Center is one of only 53 emergency departments in the world that met stringent criteria to earn the award.
A major innovation at Intermountain Medical Center highlighted during the award process was the emergency department’s shared leadership program which helps mentor, train, and facilitate committees to find improvements in patient care for the department.
More than 60 percent of caregivers in Intermountain Medical Center’s emergency department are on at least one committee, which are led by bedside nurses. By working with and taking input from all caregivers in the department, the program has led to improved times for patient care and overall better patient experiences in the department.
Intermountain Medical Center is one of only two adult Level I trauma centers in Utah, which means they have the highest level of care available to treat injured or ill patients.
