February 3, 2023 – Nannette Berensen has been selected as the new chief operating officer for Intermountain Health. She will have oversight for operations across the organization, bringing years of Intermountain leadership experience to the role.
After working at Intermountain during college as a phlebotomist, and then leaving for other roles outside the organization, Berensen returned to Intermountain in 2006 as director of pharmacy services for Intermountain Medical Center. She has held many leadership roles since, including her most recent position as vice president and chief operating officer of Clinical Shared Services.
“I have the highest respect for and confidence in Nannette, who has demonstrated a unique ability to drive innovation, bring teams together, and improve the patient experience,” says Rob Allen, Intermountain president and CEO. “We need leaders like Nannette who are respected by our colleagues, put patients and caregivers first, and can deliver on our mission. I join other leaders across Intermountain in congratulating her, and I look forward to our continued partnership.
“I am honored, humbled, and excited to serve as COO,” says Berensen. “I am passionate about what Intermountain Health stands for as an organization and so grateful for the work our 60,000 caregivers engage in every day to make a difference in peoples’ lives and to serve our communities well. There are formidable challenges facing healthcare that will require the collective wisdom and efforts of all of us to position Intermountain Health for future success. I am confident that by working together, we will be successful.”
Before returning to Intermountain, Berensen was an associate professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Pharmacy and director of the MUSC Drug Information Center. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Utah. She recently received a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from University of Providence. She completed a specialized residency in drug information practice and pharmacotherapy at the National Institutes of Health.
