May 5, 2021 – Humana will pay approximately $5.7 billion to take full ownership Kindred at Home, the nation’s largest home health provider, Kindred at Home.
The transaction values Kindred at Home at $8.1 billion.
Humana holds a 40% stake – an existing equity value of $2.4 billion – through 2017 deal with private equity firms TPG Capital and Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS).
Following the transaction, Kindred at Home will become CenterWell Home Health and fall under the CenterWell umbrella.
Humana intends to further “accelerate clinical innovation” to deliver more care in the home.”
There may be limits to how much of the continuum Humana wants to own. The company intends to divest a majority stake in Kindred at Home’s hospice and community care operations.
The acquisition of Kindred at Home is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021.
