October 7, 2024- The healthcare industry is currently facing significant supply chain challenges that have disrupted care delivery, according to Becker’s Hospital Review. Hospitals have begun to feel the impact of the temporary Baxter North Cove plant closure and the East and Gulf Coast port strikes, which have raised concerns about the availability of critical intravenous solutions and other essential medical supplies.
Leaders from the Healthcare Industry Resilience Collaborative, Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists spoke to Becker’s Hospital Review, stating that the healthcare market will be highly constrained in terms of supply, and a long recovery period may be in store. Mass General Brigham, Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, and more have begun to implement mitigation strategies, stockpiling of essential medical supplies, and utilizing alternative solutions and conservation of critical supplies.
