September 1, 2023- International Overdose Awareness Day is a campaign and annual day of recognition on August 31 that aims to end overdose and acknowledge people in communities that are impacted by overdose.
In late August, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it will commit additional resources to address the overdose epidemic. Funding has been used to expand crisis clinics, help rural communities address buprenorphine (life-saving medication to treat opioid use disorder) access difficulties, and other critical services.
Funding will be allotted to The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
