September 13, 2023- According to Cardinal Health’s Megan Maltenfort, VP, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Cardinal Health believes that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare.
Health disparities are differences in health associated with social, economic, or environmental disadvantage. Differences may occur due to various factors (such as disability, race, ethnicity, etc.), and put underserved populations at risk of poor health outcomes. According to a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), poor health outcomes cost the U.S. economy $451 billion a year in 2018 alone.
To address healthcare inequities, Cardinal Health recommends increasing healthcare access virtually, ensuring access to mental healthcare, and helping customers provide equitable care by providing patients with patient support and at-home solutions.
