Carilion Clinic’s birthplace introduces the latest in infant identification technology

November 6, 2024- The Birthplace at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Carilion New River Valley Hospital now offer CertaScan, a modern process for identifying infants in a hospital setting. Instead of ink, this system provides a digital image of newborn footprints, secure storage, security photos and the mom’s index fingerprint. CertaScan offers a higher standard than traditional ink prints. With technology designed with guidance from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, parents will also receive a printout of their newborn’s footprints.

The implementation of CertaScan builds on Carilion’s Birthplace’s commitment to quality, which recently received national recognition. Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care for the third consecutive year – the only hospital in the region to garner the recognition.
