July 18, 2024- Eugene Schneller, Ph.D., has been appointed as Co-Executive Director of the Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies. Since its founding, CAPS Research has been jointly operated as an applied research center under the auspices of Arizona State University and the Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®) the leadership team reaffirms the commitment of both organizations to the core value proposition of CAPS Research.
Since its launch in 1986, CAPS Research has been the preeminent source of authoritative research on the frontier of global procurement and supply chain operations and performance. CAPS Research uniquely leverages the expertise of its member network and its access to leading global scholars and research to produce insight into not only what’s next on the horizon, but also how to mobilize resources for future conditions.
As such, Eugene Schneller, an accomplished researcher and professor of supply chain management at the W. P. Carey School of Business, brings to this role his experience chairing several organizations, initiatives, and various boards, in addition to his academic expertise. He currently serves as Co-Director of the Supply Chain Resilience initiative – a W. P. Carey effort closely aligned with CAPS Research goals.
“This is an opportunity to leverage the experience and insights from ASU and ISM to drive innovation and excellence for CAPS,” said Schneller. “I look forward to collaborating and supporting the CAPS Research team and member organizations to navigate the complexities of today’s global supply chains.”

ISM CEO Tom Derry brings more than 30 years of experience in leadership and general management roles for public and private companies, and in the not-for profit sector. His unique vantage point will further bridge and align the practitioner and academic insights for CAPS.

The joint commitment of ISM and ASU will provide greater opportunities for insights, collaboration, and contributions to advance the profession and CAPS Research member supply chain performance. This shift will be a benefit that enables more direct contact with ASU faculty and fellows, along with greater connections to ISM training and capabilities.
