June 20, 2023 – According to The Washington Post, the Biden administration recently announced that Dr. Mandy Cohen, former North Carolina health secretary, will be the next director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Biden reportedly chose Dr. Cohen based on her leadership experience in federal and state government, her oversight of North Carolina’s response to COVID-19, and her track record of building bridges with Republicans and Democrats, as well as the private sector. In a statement, President Biden said, “Dr. Cohen is one of the nation’s top physicians and health leaders with experience leading large and complex organizations, and a proven track-record protecting Americans’ health and safety.”
Dr. Cohen’s first day at the CDC will be in early July, replacing CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, who is stepping down June 30.
