March 28, 2022 – WalletHub recently highlighted 2022’s best and worst states. WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions, “Opportunity & Competition” and “Medical Environment.” WalletHub evaluated those dimensions using 19 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for practicing doctors.
The top state? South Dakota, with a score of 69.37. Among the metrics, South Dakota was No. 1 in the category of highest average annual wage for physicians with the adjusted cost of living.
Minnesota came in at No. 2 with a score of 67.82, while Wisconsin, Montana and Idaho rounded out the top five.
The bottom five were New Jersey (No. 47), Delaware (No. 48), the District of Columbia (No. 49), New York (No. 50) and Rhode Island (No. 51).
