July 26, 2024- Ansell has formally submitted its letter of commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which confirms Ansell’s intention to set near-term and long-term science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets, thereby establishing an end-to-end value chain Net Zero target to be verified by SBTi in accordance with SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard. In financial year 2022, Ansell announced science-based Scope 1 and 2 reduction targets to achieve net zero for its own operations by 2040, supported by a short-term target of a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, with an added commitment to rely on offsets for less than 10% of residual emissions. Emissions from purchased goods and services, transport and distribution, fuel- and energy-related activities, and end-of-life treatment make up a significant portion of Ansell’s Scope 3 emissions.
The SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard is the world’s only framework for corporate net-zero target setting in line with climate science. It includes the guidance, criteria, and recommendations companies need to set science-based net-zero targets consistent with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. The Company has been investigating key activities in its value chain to define its Scope 3 reduction targets, including further engagement with its supply chain and focusing on options for product end of life and raw materials.
